Arestin is an antibiotic, minocycline, which is a member of the tetracycyine class of antibiotics. Minocycline exerts its antimicrobial activity by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis and has been shown to be effective against pathogens associated with periodontal disease.
Arestin is a powder that is blown into the pockets using a special syringe (a plastic tube, not a needle). It maintains its therapeutic drug concentration for up to 21 days of administration.
